Today, my cousin invited me to an event that'll be happening on Saturday night. The first thing I did after she texted me was ask my mom if I could go. I'm 20. FML

Today, my mom asked if I wanted to come to dinner with my parents and my grandparents who are in from London. When we got to the restaurant, there was a wait. My mom made me walk home because they could get a table quicker for a group of four than a group of five. FML

Today, my Mom was gushing to a relative about going to see a very famous singer with my sister while we were at dinner. I smiled politely, until the relative asked why I wasn’t going. I felt too embarrassed to admit I hadn’t been asked, despite having the money, so I awkwardly made something up. FML

Today, I was invited to a party. Since I rarely get invited to any, I was super pumped. Both my parents work late, so I texted a couple of people to see if I could catch a ride. It turned out everyone's cars were full. I ended up missing one of the only parties I've ever been invited to. FML

I'd imagine that you're pretty close to your mom for doing something like that. Especially understandable if you either moved out recently or still live with them haha

I had to do this when coming back from college. My mom was always an overprotective and controlling parent so she always felt like she had to know where I was at all moments of the day. It feels nice having freedom in college.

It gets better. I know the feeling. My mother was extremely overprotective when I was underaged to the point that when I did turn 18 and was told, "You're legal now. I'm no longer liable so I don't care", I still struggled with the urge to ask permission for everything. When the 'freedom' hits, you're gonna love it. It's like seeing the world for the first time ever.
