I took "ex" to mean that he was your boyfriend when you spent the night. I took hitting him "where it hurts" to be verbal - maybe he's illiterate or a little rough around the edges and you cut him down for it. If that's the case, that was really shitty of you and you shouldn't have done that. You deserved to lose your coat and you do NOT deserve to be empowered. Next time? Try, "I don't like the way you treat me and I'm not going to put up with it. Goodbye, don't try to contact me or I will call the police"
I completely agree. Also I'd like to add a small point. If "hit him where it hurts" was literal; and you physically hit him in the genitals (I could be way off and this is not the case - if so then I am sorry), then you shouldn't feel empowered and you should lose your coat, as well as anything else you left at his place. Under no circumstances should a person (man or woman) hit someone unless it is in self defense.
It was worth it.
Cut your losses! You shouldn't apologize to anyone after you stood up for yourself. Good for you OP!
"I don't care who he is or what he's done, baby, you don't give a man a shot in the pills. It's just not cricket."
If the breakup was that bad, your jacket and anything else you left there are probably long gone by now.
Would you pay the money you spent on the coat to never see him again? If you would, then it's money well lost, right?
Today, I got into a fight with my girlfriend after spending the weekend together. She ripped into me verbally before hitting me in the balls and storming out. Not only did she break up with me, but also she forgot her favorite jacket. It's very expensive and she will most certainly come back for it. FML
It's probably worth it.
yeah forget about the jacket

Honey, if he was that bad, it's worth losing the coat. Congratulations for standing up to him. It's definitely not an easy thing to do.
Well, time to go ask for it back. Be nice about it, just for the coat.
