Honestly, it was nice of them to not want you to feel like the third wheel. That was thoughtful. However, forgetting that such a party could in fact prevent you from being totally alone... not so thoughtful. (Sorry if you were alone this New Year's Eve- I hope next New Year's Eve will be better.) That said, I have relatives that throw lots of parties. More often than not, the games and such are specifically designed for couples and/or drinkers. Singles and/or nondrinkers are still invited, but are forewarned that they may find themselves alone at times, so come at their own risk.
Oh man, same here! I'm so sorry, OP.
So, they don't think you could have decided for yourself if you'd prefer to have gone or not? Great friends, not even giving you that option. I'm not single but my boyfriend lives overseas so when I socialise I'm always flying solo. It shouldn't matter to anyone else if you turn up alone. It's your choice.
Fifth wheel? Seventh wheel? Ninth wheel?
OP would have been a spare tire, obviously. (More seriously, it really sucks that they didn't leave the choice to OP, even if they aren't a party person. Might have had good intentions, but they failed in the execution. I am a shut in, and I'd still be hurt in OP's shoes. Probably wouldn't have gone, but I would have been pleased that they thought to invite me.)
Well aren't your friend logical and so empathetic also!!!
don't feel bad OP, i was in the same boat ... it sucked completely
Looks like it's time to find some new single friends
That makes the two of us, OP. All my friends are in relationships now so even though I am fine with being the third, fifth, seventh, whatever wheel when I am with them, it is annoying when we cannot hang out without them wanting to invite their partner wherever we go.
Being in a relationship is overrated tbh and that was rude of them

Well that's counterintuitive
You don't deserve to be treated like that, so what if you're single. Your "group of friends" don't really sound like good friends. Good luck OP.
