It’s very seldom wise to joke about interview questions if you were joking… If you have been out of the job market for 10 years then you have a tough road ahead of you. You may have to start with a job in your field but at a lower responsibility and pay until you have earned back your experience. Then you can look for a better job after a year or so.
Not necessarily. I had a 10 yr gap of employment, and when they asked why, I simply told them that I was operating my own lawn mowing business, and had my neighbors as professional references vouching for me. What was I really doing for 10 years? Caring for my mom who was diagnosed with cancer and attended every doctors visit, chemo treatments, etc and when she died, did the same for my stepdad who was diagnosed with cancer shortly after my mom passed away. Potential employers did not need to know what I was really doing, hence the lie (and believe it or not, my states veterans assistant at the unemployment office told me to lie on my resume)

A ten-year gap is bad enough, but being flippant about it practically screams "I'm Unemployable For a Reason!"
