In a way, I agree with your son on that one. If it was a class discussion, I think that admitting you don’t know is better than bullshitting. But on a test it was some kind of discussion question designed to either test the student’s thinking abilities or their ability to parrot back the answer the teacher or the book said. In this case, it was a “failure to communicate” moment (movie “Cool Hand Luke”). Frankly I think the teacher failed this one.
no the issue is how he answered it. sure you don't know what they'd do, but what's your best educated guess? why don't you think you can predict what will happen? what factors make it hard to predict? his answer was rude and deserves an F
In general, the more detailed your instructions, the less likely you'll get an answer like this--and that goes for adults, too.
If my kid said that, I would laugh and give him props, then tell him to answer seriously as well
so what? kids try to be funny, it's just how it is.. adults try as well.
