Make your minds up

Today, I was offered a job that pays far more than I expected, being a high school senior. My parents decided they aren't letting me take the job, saying I should enjoy my childhood. They're also not paying for my college, which is why I was looking for work in the first place. FML

sit down with your parents and tell them why its important for you to either get a job, or have them pay for your college. its your education, and it is truly important

Why would any parent STOP their kids from getting jobs? They should be proud of you for thinking ahead and wanting to be responsible. Especially when most kids just want to party and spend their parents money.

If you're old enough to get a job, you're old enough to decide to take it or not. Particularly as you are planning for your future... Yes a discussion should be had.

Stick with the job. You're parents certainly can't be that unreasonable. If you tell them exactly how important it is for you to further your education, there shouldn't really be a problem.

They just might be that unreasonable though,14, It's like my sister's friend. She plans to go to Emory to be a doctor, but her parents are refusing to pay for the application fees or for college fees, even though her mother works there. They feel like they have already spent enough money on her because they bought her a car from their aunt for 100 dollars.

If you're old enough to work, surely that means you're old enough not to need your parents permission to do so?

I've been working since I was 13 and I can say my childhood rocked because I had the money that opened so many opportunities. Seriously try to reason with them, a job is a great thing and college is important.

Take the job anyways, college obviously isn't free. Apply for financial aid and seriously only use loans as a last resort.

Since you're probably old enough to work I think you should do it and hopefully you can show your parents that you can work and still enjoy your "childhood" on top of school work maybe they will come around congrats on your new job OP.

Just take the job anyways. You're an adult. They'll grow up eventually.

Take the job anyway. The earlier you start your working life, the earlier you can finish it. But stay in school for as long as possible, because no matter how good your job might be, it won't make as many memories as school.
