Is he happier now?
OP, there are multiple potential explanations for taking a lower paying job. I am going to assume it was because the previous job was unbearable for some reason. But it could also be he was forced to quit or was fired and had to take the first job he could find... Regardless, husband should have let you know what was going on. But, at the same time quality of life counts a lot. You married your husband, you didn't force him to become a wage slave always bringing home more and more money so you could live the life you aspired to. You and your husband need to have a heart to heart talk in a non-accusatory manner so you understand what's going on and can do your part to help maintain the partnership so your husband doesn't have to get off the train at Willoughby. (Thats a Twilight Zone reference - "A Stop at Willoughby".)
I feel like all the YDI aren't taking into account that basically nobody can take a 66% pay cut and keep their current lifestyle, and since she obviously didn't know before does this mean she's just supposed to be ok with selling the car? moving house to an apartment? giving up college for their kids? he has a right to quit but she had a right to be prepared
Then they should have explained that as part of the FML. Right now it's all "Me! Me! Me!" and no sign that they have the slightest care about their husband and what made him quit his original higher-paying job.
I hope he's happier for it. And out of pure curiosity what, if anything, did you bring to the table and why does it sound like you're not going to be keen on the idea of having to pitch in?
