New fangled technology

By notacashier - This FML is from back in 2014 but it's good stuff - United States - Brooklyn

Today, I used the self-checkout for the first time. I didn't see a slot for bills, so I tried to put them in the coin slot for a solid three minutes. There was a huge line behind me, silently judging. FML

YDI Wouldn't you know the difference between the size between a bill and a coin.

That's when you drop everything and leave without saying a word.

My cousin who has Down's Syndrome actually taught me how to use Self-Checkouts when the other cashiers were busy. And he managed to get a good laugh when I hollererd back at the machine that my items were already in the bag. But there was no great mystery where the currency went. LoL

I won't pass judgement because I have no experience with such things so I'll be nice about it... I know it's difficult asking for help when you are one of those stubborn and / or shy people OP (aka me) but there comes a stage in life when you have to! Good luck next time :)

From someone who has been a cashier, just go through a normal line. The self-check-out may just be a little too advanced for you, OP

You have to do what you have to do. Pay no mind to silent judgers, they're everywhere.

My dad always freaks out when using them. He says he won't use them again but still does.

wow your life does not suck more than you deserve it, if you dont now how to do something you should just ask for help...its usually the best way to not make yourself look like a moron

That sounds bad OP, and I'm sorry for your experience, as several others have said: you'd think someone in the queue would step up and help. Here, in Norway, all self-checkouts in stores are card only.
