Which is better; Ending the relationship now when you know you'll have to end it eventually or ending it later while going through all the motions of a relationship even if you don't love the other person anymore? I think he made the better choice even if it does suck. Why waste a year of your life?

If your boyfriend knows that at the time he moves away that he'll want to end the relationship and focus on himself and being single [as many people do] it's better to end it early than to wait another year developing feelings/emotions that aren't going to stick.
