Shoelace dyslexia

Today, I had to explain to yet another person that I can't tie a knot. Even if someone walks me through the entire process, I never get it. The person in question berated me for not being able to perform such a "simple" task. I truly don't know what I'm doing wrong, and it makes me feel like an idiot. FML

There's no helping some people

Today, I was helping a 93 year-old hoarder organize her home. She asked me to make ropes from old plastic bags, fold bags in a specific odd way, then fit four large boxes of bags into one smaller one. I said I couldn't do those, nor fit four boxes in one. "Why are you here if you can’t do things?" she said. I’m a professional home organizer. FML

I'm so curious about this. How many times could it possibly even come up? I have never discussed with anyone whether or not I can tie a knot.

By saying you don't know what you're doing wrong, does that mean no one has showed you, you haven't looked up the many resources to watch/listen how, or you're just daft?

Damn kids nowadays who were raised on Velcro and no-lace shoes! (insert meme of old man yelling at cloud) I bet when your pants stretch, you throw them in the trash instead of piercing two holes in them and inserting a shoelace that you tie every time you wear those pants! When I was young, we had lace boots, lace bodices and lace pantaloons, and we would make the little bunny go around the tree and hop in the hole like real men!

the problem op is describing is real. has to do with hand-eye coordination

You are not stupid at all, you could have a condition called developmental coordination disorder. We know more about it now but it was probably not very well known when you were a child. It is a cognitive dysfunction where you have difficulties manipulating objects and remembering the steps you have to go through to do something, like tying a knot. People who have it are often described as very clumsy and disorganised. You could go see an occupational therapist to help you.

do not despair, OP. I had this problem as a kid and had to wear velcro shoes well into my mid teens. There are therapies that help with hand-eye coordination issues.

You are an idiot in this context. This would be a time you could use the r-word, if the word was still in use. Everyone has "blind spots" no matter how smart they are.
