Thanks, I hate it!

By poorkids - This FML is from back in 2012 but it's good stuff - United States - Auburn

Today, my daughter called me telling me she had her twin girls. She named them Juli and Anne. Her name is Julianne. Her kids are going to fucking hate her. FML

Ooh nooo! People really should realize that their children aren't pets...

Why didn't she just make it similar but still a little different? Like, Julia and Anabelle? ._. I don't know, at least it's better than just Juli and Anne

But it will be a funny story! Given that the girls grow up to have a sense of humor, that is.

I'm waiting for the FML about 14 years from now: "My name is Juli, and my twin sister's name is Anne. My mother's name is Julianne. FML"

I'm named after my father who is named after his father who is named after his father. It's tradition to give your first son the worst possible name. my name is Dick by the way, not richard, just Dick. I don't even have a middle name I can use.

Well you should be a proud Dick! You have been around for a long time, and you are still standing proud!! Lol take that for how you will....

There's an unfortunate fellow up here in Canada named "Dick Assman" it's not short for Richard either. I'm sure they laughed when they picked it, but some people are just cruel, and names have a huge effect on who we are perceived to be as people.

I knew a guy whose last name was "assman" he didn't get ridiculed (at least not directly to his face) because he was ill tempered, 6ft5 and 270lbs. He said it was pronounced "azzmin"

My best friend's name is Sandy Assman... She has blonde hair and green eyes.

Why is it considered normal to name sons after their father but not daughters after their mother? I'm a third, my dad being Jr and his dad is Sr. I happen to think it is a stupid practice but this is the a unique way to name twin girls after their mother. I wouldn't do it but it doesn't seem that bad.

It's bad because it suggests the twins are half-people.

You're just messed up, that's your daughter. Saying her kids are going to hate her one day, because of their names? F*** that noise, they are going to hate you, for saying that crap about not only their mom, but your DAUGHTER!!!.

I don't think it's that big a deal. My husband's a Jacob - the III and goes by his nickname. I actually wanted to name my son after him - I love the name Jacob and its not as if my husband uses it. (we didn't - my husband didn't want to.) My other son was Joseph - my Dad's name. Both my girls have middle names that are family names. Same with my sister's kids. And she has a husband that goes by Tommy and they call their son Thomas. It's not about narcissism to want to keep a name in the family - its about love and the fact that you simply like the name. And I've yet to meet a kid who didn't want to change their name at some point.

My brother was named after my dad, Walter. He suffered years of ridicule as a kid with a name you associate with an 85yr old man.

But now it has badass connotations because it's now associated with Breaking Bad!

I'm thinking the daughter likes her name so much she wanted to pass it on down to the twins. In a way thats a compliment to the OP for giving her daughter a name she actually likes.

I went to school with 2 boys named Todd. They were brothers. Had the same father, different mothers. Wtf
