That backfired

By Alexander D. - 14/07/2012 00:48 - United States

Today, I was fired for telling a customer's kid to shut his mouth. As revenge, I sent the CEO a picture I acquired months ago of my boss drunkenly pissing on a cow. He wrote that it was the funniest thing he had ever seen, and that I am "clearly an insufferable killjoy; a total liability to the company." FML

Mate, no matter how bratty the kid is, suck it up and be nice. It's your job and you're there to serve the customer.

You are stupid if you think you can tell a customer's kid to shut their mouth, even if they do need to.

here's a bright idea you dolt, ask the mother if she could get her kid to quiet down, otherwise deal with it. maybe get a job where you don't interact with people.

Exactly. Ask the mother to quiet her child but don't do what you did, OP. YDI.

I applaud OP. It sucks that he got fired, but its a bitch to work with the public. The people that have been having a bad day come in and decide to look like assholes to you, and then there are the parents who don`t control their kids and decide you need to act nice, even if the kid`s being a total brat. If you said YID, you need to work with public more.

I work in retail and I still said "YID"

I've dealt with obnoxious drunks whilst working behind a bar, and I've never told any of them to 'shut their mouths', no matter how much I might have felt like it... it's not professional. Unfortunately, working in retail comes with annoying rules like not being rude to customers even if they're dicks..

Part of working with the public is learning how to hold your temper. If a customer's child is being rude or causing a disruption, you ask the parents to deal with it. If they will not, you simply ask them to leave. If they won't leave, you call the police. You never tell a customer, no matter what their age, to "shut their mouth." It isn't an example of good customer service nor is it an example of self control. I've worked with the public for years. The public is full of little ***** that don't deserve an ounce of respect. But, there is a difference between letting a customer walk all over you and letting your own bad day ruin someone else's. They're already doing that to you, don't escalate an easily avoidable situation. And OP is a killjoy for trying to use blackmail to get revenge for being fired.

You need to cut the high and mighty bullshit, StaminPrimer. Yes, working with the public can be really tiring and difficult, but part of it is being able to control yourself and not say unpleasant things to customers no matter HOW much they're ******* with you. If you're standing by what you say, you clearly should never work with the public again.

I agree you ARE an insufferable killjoy.

You sound like one hella miserable bastard

Am I the only one who feels bad for the cow?

an idiot doesn't even begin to describe this back stabbing traitor

I'm still trying to understand "got drunk and pissed on a cow". I mean, under what circumstance does that actually happen?

You're a tool. You deserved to be fired, and I hope you kissed a good reference goodbye with your 'revenge'.

"The customer is always right." Even if they are left.
