Today, I overheard my boss talking about me on the phone. Turns out he was drunk off his ass when he gave the go-ahead to hire me, and he's now searching for any excuse to legally fire me. FML

Seems like something he should be fired for. Not very professional.

"So why were you hesitant about hiring him in the first place?" "Oh, I guess he just seems sort of irresponsible, you know? Like, I didn't feel as though I could give him a task he'd take seriously." "Yeah… being irresponsible can lead to bad decisions…"

Wow. He's not even going to give you a chance? Blow him out of the water with how great of an employee you are!

You should work your ass off to prove to him you deserve to work there

Just work your ass off and prove him wrong. If you want the job, it's yours. But I personally wouldn't want to work for someone who doesn't value or respect me and who cuts corners.

Now this is the kind of boss I would NOT want to work for. Just do your best and hopefully things will turn in your favor. But burnish your resume just in case (and be very hesitant about using your current boss as a reference).

Time to start looking for a new job, while still giving 100% at your current one. Best case: you find a better job and as soon as you quit to take it, your then ex-boss realizes that he should have stuck with his drunk decision.

Start hunting for a new job and quit before they have a chance to get rid of you. I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

I think he should be fired himself, if only for being an irresponsible tool.
