They see me rollin'…

Today, I got to work and saw a new desk had been setup on stilts. "Oh, who got the standing desk?" I asked. Turns out it's for the guy in the wheelchair who was right behind me. It needs to be high so the controls of his wheelchair can fit under the desk. FML

Him being right behind you makes you look a little dumb, yes, but otherwise it was an honest mistake and you weren't making fun or him or anything so I dont see why an apology and just going on with your day wouldn't fix everything here...

I don't understand how what he said was a problem. It sounded like a legitimate question, and the way OP worded it, he wasn't reading someone. So, I wouldn't have really been offended.

i dont think you need to feel bad for not noticing his wheelchair, especially if he is always in front of a desk

I doubt he was actually offended, probably just a little awkward. It'll blow over, I'm sure.

might be helpful to think before you speak

As if OP was supposed to know that it was for someone in a wheelchair

Not sure how asking who got it is offensive

If he got offended by such an innocent remark, then, wheelchair or not, he is an asshole, trying to get people to feel sorry for him.

...pretty sure OP is just embarrassed about it.

There is no way you could have Koen and your question was innocent and innocuous. No worries!

You made an innocent remark that only turned out to be a mistake because he was right behind you. Apologize and then let it go, it wasn't a big deal. If he got offended by that, well that's on him and his insecurity. Not your problem.

I can see how you might think of this as being a little embarrassing, but it was an honest mistake; you weren't even making fun of him. A good story, but not a worthy "FML" in my own opinion!
