Today, a customer left a Starbucks card in the tip jar at work. It was empty. I work at Starbucks. FML

Yes we get tips. It adds an extra few dollars an hour. Why wouldn't we get tips? We provide a service.

I provide the service of bagging the customer's items as a cashier but I don't get tips!

Yeah you provide a service, but you do make minimum wage, and on top of that there's no table service. Tipping is mostly a system for people who don't make minimum wage. I seriously don't mind there being a tip jar on a Starbucks counter, but you shouldn't expect tips because you take an order and make a drink for someone.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but why would people tip at Starbucks you're not doing any special service for them it's like tipping at McDonald's for them making you a sandwich.

I'm a barista at a different coffee shop and that's what I said to my coworker. They all ended up ganging up on me...

Yes, those who work at Starbucks have Barista as their title, but they really don't do the same work as a Barista in non-corporate chain coffee shops. They're drinks are all spelled out for them, while working at a smaller coffee shop it's more like Bartending with coffee as opposed to alcohol. Bartenders usually get paid more than minimum wage plus tips, because they have special training. Starbucks is like the McDonalds of the coffee world, really not the same. I tip Baristas at real coffee shops, but on the few occasions I've been to Starbucks, I didn't feel it necessary. Just like I tip waiters and waitresses at a restaurant who serve me a burger, but not the person behind the counter at McDonalds or Burger King.

I work at cold stone and we've got a tip jar and we make pretty good money off of it. It's not up to you who should be tipped. If people want to tip someone, then let them. It really does help the employees out, especially during the winter when I'm working like 4 or 5 hours a week.

I worked at Starbucks for over a year and I'd have to disagree with you. So many people would come in and order more than the standard drink recipe. Steaming milk and pouring shots properly is an acquired skill, and not everyone can get the hang of it. I think if you're a regular and get the same consistent service from your barista then tipping them is worth it and definitely appreciated.

No worries people throw their receipts in my tips jars.

Yo Taylor that's the bin. That's not yours. Just because you wrote your name on it doesn't make it so. You need to stop telling people it's yours. Also you need to stop eating from there. You are not Brick. ;)

Why the hell do coffee servers think they deserve a tip? Also, stop calling yourselves "Baristas". You are no more than a McDonalds employee who serves coffee instead of burgers.

i get how that would be rude, but dont they pay minimum wage? its nice to get a little extra, but you cant assume everyone will tip, especially when making minimum wage.

Some people think tipping is a joke or don't see the value. Unfortunately for the servers who have to deal with people like that. This is why I try to tip a little bit more anywhere I go.

I don't think it's a joke. When I'm actually tipping a waiter or waitress that actually makes less than minimum wage. I'm not going to tip someone that all they did was pour my coffee in a cup, call out my name, and then plop the cup down on a counter for me to retrieve.

I don't think half of a dollar bill has the same monetary value as fifty cents..

Looks like the tip jar is his trash as well...at least give enough for something even though working there is irrelevant but that could go towards someone's payment of they are a bit short

#1- some banks will take a half dollar bill and give you a full dollar bill, so I have been told

#29, In order to get a one-dollar bill replaced, you have to have 51% or more of it. That way you couldn't split it right down the middle and turn the pieces in for TWO dollars. :)
