Today, a friend and I went to Gamestop to pick up a game he wanted. I ended up buying a 17+ game, and I was prepared to show my license, but he stopped me an said, "I know you're 18". He then said, "Man, I've pretty much watched you grow up in this store." A game salesman watched me grow up. FML

OP here. It's a FML to me because, I'm not ashamed of being a gamer, I feel that it's just a pretty dorky situation. I totally was caught off guard when the site gave this entry the green light. I just thought it would be funny to share. A bit of background though, #155 is completely right, it's only been like 4 years.

That's more of FHL. He's been working at a game store for all those years. Atleast you had an excuse, you liked playing video games. Not all kids are into going out and playing sports etc.

i don't gets whats bad about that... so the guy who works at the store knows you, it's a mark of a good salesperson

To everyone telling the OP to "get outside" and other snide comments: video gamers are most generally not the corpulent, antisocial, lethargic, unintelligent blobs the media has presented them to be. I'm not a video gamer (I'm just not the person who finds interest in FPSes or owning a gaming console), but I can attest that most gamers are not the same sort of scum presented in the media. I agree with #245. There is a sort of sentimentality that goes along with this. And of course, #112 is right on the money. Go follow their advice.

I don't think people realize that most video games today are for adult men. It's a hobby. It's not like it was your friendly neighborhood weed salesperson.

How is that bad? You're a gamer, and you've been shopping in his store for a long time. Honestly, I think its sweet of the salesman to say. There are a lot of older gamers, not just little ten year olds. I mean, what is a game like Fallout geared towards? The older crowd, not the younger.

I don't see the problem here

That's not bad; I live in a small suburb and there is this lady who has worked at the gas station down the road from me who basically watched me grow up because of how often my friend and I would go in there and buy snacks all the time. It shows that people remember you and, to me, that's important.

I think he should be here on FML, mentioning how he's spent years working at Gamestop (if the extensively detailed flash animations about how horrid a workplace it is are true).

i think its sad that someone has been working at a Gamestop long enough to see you grow up. **** his life!

next stop, try that same trick at your local bar.
