Today, a student threw her hot coffee at me after I told her I was giving her an F. For months I've been telling her she needs to hand in missing work, but she thought I was bluffing. She got suspended, but my clothes are still ruined and I still got burned. FML

OP here. Luckily, the burn is not bad at all. I don't even need medical attention. The skin is just red and a bit sore, similar to a minor sunburn. It will be 100% gone in another day or two. She was suspended for the rest of the school year. I do not intend to take legal action, because she will likely be back in my classroom next year. (It's an adult education program, so there are no restrictions for accepting students with records. Pretty sure this girl already has a few assault charges in her past.) Thank you for the support and sympathy! :)

You could probably press charges against her, as well. I would. Teach that little brat that there are consequences to her actions.

wow, the **** is wrong with her? Hope she gets expelled.

Perhaps you could at least make a case against her ending up in your class again and refer her to an online course or different subject altogether.

that's ridiculous, what has the world come to?

You could say you got... *puts sunglasses on* ..BURNED

At least sue her for your hospital fees and she should be expelled not suspended.

they said in later comment they didn't need medical attention

Why so many votes that the teach deserved it? Sick sick people.

Some people just want to see the world burn.

Probably some high school rebels who think what the girl did is cool.

I would definitely be pressing charges against her. It's ironic to me that kids are punished severely for things that are fairly innocuous, but then completely push off when there is something actually serious.

Don't tell someone that they are getting an F and not expect them to be angry

Even though they had months of opportunities to hand in the missing work and maybe get a better mark? I would assume that anyone who can't be bothered to hand in or even do assignments is apathetic and doesn't give a shit about their grade.

And that excuses committing assault? The girl got an F because of her own laziness. Her anger is unjustified.

You are one of those people who think everyone should pass whether they did the work or not arent you? Dont be a jackass.

Am I the only one who is shocked that a teacher can make such an obvious english mistake? "I still GOT burns"? Really?

OP here. Yeah, I spotted that typo right after I hit submit. It was supposed to be "I got burned." Hey, sometimes my fingers are ahead of my brain when I type! It happens, right?

Not to mention I just saw that I left out a comma in my previous reply. I think it's time to catch up on some sleep! I just wanted to point out my second mistake before you did. Have a great night.

I have known adults that have been told they can no longer be part of programs such as this because of behavior similar to this. It's an important lesson for "adult" students to learn. Can't assault your teacher and come back. It plays too much into their ego and sends a bad message to the rest of the student population... if the program can't keep teacher safe, how will they protect other students against such acts? Also, this was something I used while teaching, you don't GIVE the grades as a teacher. Students EARN the grade by fulfilling the requirements of the class. Important difference to me and gives the responsibility to the student. Sorry this happened to you. Good luck for the rest of the course! Sounds like it may be better with this student.

I meant to say without this student .. The course sounds like it'd be better without the coffee throwing student.
