OP here. Luckily, the burn is not bad at all. I don't even need medical attention. The skin is just red and a bit sore, similar to a minor sunburn. It will be 100% gone in another day or two. She was suspended for the rest of the school year. I do not intend to take legal action, because she will likely be back in my classroom next year. (It's an adult education program, so there are no restrictions for accepting students with records. Pretty sure this girl already has a few assault charges in her past.) Thank you for the support and sympathy! :)

Lawsuit. Completely legal to sue her for assault and destruction of property
Suspended is not enough, I hope you will press charges for assault.
That's called assault. You do have rights as a human, you know. Sucks, but if you don't do anything about it, You deserve her only being suspended.
I'm so sorry that happened to you, OP. I hope that student gets more of a punishment than just suspension and you heal quickly. Also, why the hell qre there 946 votes for YDI? I don't see how this teacher deserved this treatment.
It's totally not okay she did that but I think pressing charges is a tad extreme..... That's me if someone did that to me yeah suspension is fine but pressing charges?
She ATTACKED her. She completely meant to harm op. That isn't something you just let go.
No here is what happened, I did have some missing assignments yes but before the day she failed me I have a 66% in that class she failed me based on the fact I had missing work. That's why I threw my coffee at her. Read between the lines people
Still no excuse to do another person harm physical or material. Do ur homework, apologise, make up for the missing work, its about learning after all.
Don't need to read between the lines, you assaulted someone. Grow the **** up, the world isn't going to work the way you want it to. You can't just harm someone because they won't do what you want or give you what you want. What are you, a toddler?
A restraining order will restrict her from your class
OP here. Again. To everyone who says I should press charges: I am not going to. The burns are minor and almost gone. I've had sunburns that were worse. The main focus of the FML was the unacceptable behavior that all teachers must deal with. Say I press charges. At most, she would be arrested, brought to court, charged a fine, and would end up right back in the school next year. With a major grudge against me. I probably could keep her out of my class, but not out of the school. Not to mention her friends are still there. Be realistic, people. Pressing charges is not a magic fix-it, nor is the situation bad enough to be worth it.
Thank god there is someone else out there who realises there are countless other options that are smarter, more effective, cheaper, more logical, faster, less time consuming (do I need to go on?) than suing. I can't stand idiots whose first reaction is 'sue'. Glad there is someone like you educating kids! Sorry about your burns and nice to hear they're minor.
Did you get a final count?

You could probably press charges against her, as well. I would. Teach that little brat that there are consequences to her actions.
wow, the **** is wrong with her? Hope she gets expelled.
