Today, at work, I was reprimanded for not engaging with customers enough. In an effort to be more friendly, I complimented the next customer on her interesting accent. Turns out it was from a stroke she had last year. FML

Today, I was at the store, and the customer service person complimented me on my accent. It's not an accent. I had a stroke last year. FML Nice way to think about your self, OP. YDI.

There's an extremely obvious difference between an accent and the voice of someone who's had a stroke. YDI for being ignorant.

You shouldn't comment on someone's accent when you don't know them. You deserved that one.

I only compliment the materials things people have (shoes, shirt, bag, etc.) never people features though, this fml being one reason.... FYL

What next? Are you going to compliment a burn victim's scar for looking like California? Just kidding, but never compliment those types of things. EVER.

I don't really see the problem with complimenting people on their accent. I have an interesting accent due to my disability, and I love when people compliment me on it.

One of my friends (21) recently had a stroke and she's seemingly just fine. It depends on the severity. That still sucks OP. At least you didn't mistake her for a man (mustaches are deceiving).

Oh well. An interesting accent is an interesting accent, regardless.
