Unfortunately, seeing them was inevitable. I'm trying not to get involved, but needless to say, it's difficult. Apparently, my mother is going to tell my step-dad, but she's a liar sometimes. One step at a time, I suppose.

You're kidding right? This is all kinds of messed up, and cheating is NEVER good. OP's mom and dad aren't together for a reason, they split up and she then made a commitment to someone else. Now this puts OP in a veryyy awkward position, especially if OP has grown close to her stepdad.
