Today, I asked my boyfriend advice on apartment hunting - as we were planning to move in with each other. He told me that there is no way he can afford to move out of his parents' house anytime soon. He can, however, afford a collection of belt-fed automatic nerf guns. FML

Allo Trollsters. This is the silly girl who posted the FML. A few disclaimers: 1) Rent is cheaper here than you are thinking. My last place here ran under $500, utilities included. If we split the cost, we aren't looking at massive expenses. 2) He is 25 years old, he lives at his parents' for free, he has a job AND THEY GIVE HIM AN ALLOWANCE. Oh, yeah, and they pay his bills for him. 3) Yes, he acquired all the nerf guns at once, within the past week. 4) I don't have a problem with his hobby. Boys will be boys, and I kinda have a thing for nerds. I do, however, have a problem with the fact that he has lied to me for the past 6 months about his future aspirations... Because I have been busting ass, nose-to-the-grindstone, working towards getting my debts paid off so we could get this place together. Aaaaand, apparently toys are more important.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but im pretty sure that a few nerf guns are less expensive than maintaining an appt.

$40 for nerf guns. $200-$600 for rent.... yes I can see how this makes sense. besides the belt fed nerf guns kick ass

Nerf guns are out time to get him into soft air guns(air soft) and get a couple for yourself there's nothing better than going around shooting your friends and if he pisses you off in the middle of the night shoot him with your new toy .

Maybe find a boyfriend who isn't a total douchebag? Just a suggestion.

I don't see what the problem is here. All you found out is that your boyfriend is awesome. Besides there is a big difference between an awesome $20 toy, and +$700 in rent

"there is a big difference between an awesome $20 toy, and +$700 in rent" True. But his toys were $50+ a piece, he bought them all at once, and his share of rent at the places we were looking at would have only been around $250/month...Including utilities. Plus I had already offered to pay the deposit myself, in full. Unfortunately, being awesome doesn't fully negate being a liar. =/

Yeah. He may have spent up to a month's rent into his entire collection. Actual living finances are quite a bit different. At least (in my area anyway) $850 per month in rent. Add a minimum of $200 utilities. A bare minimum of $500 in food, for just him - not you. Gas. Emergency money. Car payments. Car insurance. Health insurance. A bare minimum of a single person living space for a month, will be $2000, at least, depending on where you live.

The point is: he said he was saving his money to move out, and he didn't. Also, again, the cost of living where I am is dirt cheap. All expenses for a single person living space here is around $600... Which is less when you split bills. I've been on my own for over 5 years. I know how much it costs to run a home, thank you very much. Also, Jesus Christ! Who in the hell spends $500/month on groceries for a single person? For a full family, sure! But for one person? Clearly you don't know how to budget. I spend less than $80/month on groceries for myself living alone EASILY.

dude I'd definately rather have a nerf gun arsenal than a live-in girlfriend any day of the week.

dude you sound like the op... haha I love smartasses

Sounds like he should be an ex if he's spending money on stuff he doesn't really need, when he should be saving for an apartment.
