Today, I asked my school counselor in strict confidence for advice on how to help a friend of mine, who has bulimia. When I got home, I found out that "someone" had called my parents and told them that I'm bulimic. They won't believe the truth. FML

I hate how it's become such a cliche that if you go to someone to help a friend they automatically assume it's you.

Go to your school counselor and talk about why he sucks.

Never go to school counselors for help. They don't get paid enough and aren't in the position to keep quiet. All the ones I've known have told secrets of students

Looks like your friend found that out...but treatment may help your friend...

When I was in high school, I once told a school psychologist something and he told my parents. I was 18 at the time so I probably could have reported him for violation confidentially. He has no idea how lucky he is that I didn't do that.

Which is why I wouldn't talk to my counselors about anything.

School counselors are awful, which is why I never under any circumstances go to mine. They always seem to make everything so much worse than it originally was.

OP, your friend's parents need to know. Bulimia completely destroys a person's body and can lead to severe, long-term health problems. They need help that you simply can't give them. If you don't feel comfortable telling their parents yourself, then tell your counselor your friend's name and tell them you don't want your friend to know who told them. Your friend may get pissed, but it's better for them to be pissed and receiving treatment than dying from an eating disorder.

Unfortunately, the school have a duty of care around safeguarding children. However The counsellors in the wrong for not clarifying if it was really you or a friend. And you're not able to sue the school as they will say they have a duty of care unfortunately you don't have a leg to stand on

Oh well, once you go to a doctor, or several, depending on how idiotic your parents are, OP, they'll have to realize you are not sick and you were telling the truth about your friend being ill. Some people 9_9
