Today, I came home from a week-long vacation, only to find my mother-in-law didn't just dog-sit while I was gone; she moved in, along with all her possessions, and seems to think it's a permanent deal. FML

OP, it's your house okay? She has no right to move in without your permission so I think it's time you had a talk with her, telling her that whatever impression she was under, that you need her to leave. It might be awkward but you really need to stand up for yourself and there's nothing wrong with defending your home.
