Today, I came home to visit my family after a year at college. Expecting to impress them, I proudly informed them that I now speak fluent Swedish. Imagine my surprise when my mother said, "That's a useless language" and everyone agreed. FML

well, it does depend on the location, but that's pretty harsh of them.

Now you can learn danish and norwegian next year and perfect scandie languages!

now, when watching the muppets, you'll be the only one who knows what the chef is saying! useless? ha!

Du kan alltid prata svenska med mig :) And for all of you who don't get that, it's swedish and it's awesome! So... to bad for you!

My home language is Dutch, and even I can translate that WITHOUT being able to speak Swedish :) I would love to learn the language though :)

That's because Dutch and Swedish are very liknande. You can't compare a native English speaker with a native Dutch speaker when it comes to learning Swedish. The grammar may be similar and the alphabet, but that's it.

You should have just told here that she's a useless mother.

What the hell could you possibly need Swedish for? Spanish is the way to go.

Mycket bra jobbat av dig, svenska är ett väldigt svårt språk även om du kanske inte har mycket användning av det :)

Om dom någonsin irriterar dig så kan du alltid säga något på svenska~

Svenska kan vara bra att kunna. Dont mind them, they are just ignorant

Go to Ikea, and talk only in Swedish. Try to apply for a job while there. Then post how it helps you in life.
