Today, I decided to do a load of laundry. Two minutes into the cycle, I realized that I left my iPod in my sweatpants pocket. The washing machine door locks automatically and cannot be opened until the 40-minute cycle is up. FML

The machine was in my dorm building and was your generic industrial washer - no OFF switch, no fancy doors, etc. Once the cycle's on, it's on for the duration. Since it was linked up to 9 other machines, had I pulled the plug, I would've not only flooded out the laundry room but would have had 9 very unhappy residents on my back..heh. Oh, and never mind the happy ending - the iPod never bounced back to life. Serves me right, I guess.

if you turn the cycle or machine off the door unlocks. You can then turn it back on and keep washing your clothes.

That's why you always check your pants pockets to make sure they're empty before you throw them in the wash.

I do that all the time, its usually chapstick too. Never think about it when doing the laundry, especially if im in a hurry

It happens. Luckily, iPods are durable-- if you let it dry out COMPLETELY (takes a few days) before you turn it on again, it should be fine.

oh no, that's awful! I agree with the rice comment. Fill a jar with uncooked rice and leave your iPod in it for 2 weeks, the rice should suck up all the water. Good luck! Man, I'd never forgive myself if that happened to my iPod. :( And definitely start checking the pockets of all your pants before you throw them in the wash!

This happened to me .. after a week of thinking my iPod nano bit the dust, I found out it worked just fine. Good luck.

don't feel too bad. you're not alone! I did the exact same thing two nights ago. And I hate myself for it. But on the bright side, maybe when it dries... ((And if being optimistic isn't your thing, laugh at my misery, I wasted about $600 in electronics in about a week and half: My ipod, my chi hair straightener (I stepped on it), and BRAND NEW canon camera (kid stole it...)) yeah either way apple products are durable and usually under warranty if your smart

wrap it up in a towel and rubber band and put it through the dryer, since it's already busted take it to the genius bar and say it shut off, hopefully they will not see water damage - which is not covered under warranty. It has WORKED

That is exactly something I would do. What worries me is the 40 minutes lock. What if you say, accidentally put a person in there? (a small one)

yeah its not under apple warranty, go buy one from best buy, return the old one they wont open it up to look at the water sticker.... most likely :P
