Today, I deliberately didn't tell my therapist half of what I was going through because I didn't want to depress her. FML

I'm the OP. I posted this after my last session with my therapist--I'd realized that this particular person wasn't working for me because I didn't really connect with her to an extent where I'd be able to tell her all my problems. This is the first time I'm seeking therapy, and from what people have said, it sometimes takes a while to find someone you are truly comfortable with. Just to be clear--I don't think that my particular problems are at all special, and they aren't even that bad when compared with half the shit people I know go through. It was just getting to the point where I was deliberately excluding things that had happened to me/that I felt because I considered them too "pathetic" to share. You can probably guess that one of my problems is that I care way too much about how other people perceive me.

I've done that before, OP. at some point you gotta talk, or find a therapist you can open up to.

You're paying good money, don't waste it

OP, if you want to get through your issues than you must trust your therapist. It's their job to help you no matter what is going on.

That's the point of going to a therapist. Letting all of your problems and emotions out instead of bottling it all in. If you don't tell her what's going on stop going.

I understand you... But you should tell her. She can help you.

As mentioned by many other commenters, don't do that. You are in therapy for a reason (I assume) and if you don't tell her everything then she might not know of a crucial part of your situation... perhaps even giving you the wrong advice or just not giving the right advice.

well I believe the therapist is still getting paid for the session... use your money wise. get better. hope we see another FML from the therapist about your depressing story..

What problems could you honestly have, you have a computer/phone to post this on. grow some balls

So because someone owns a computer or a phone, they automatically have a wonderful life with nothing going wrong? Being well off doesn't necessarily eliminate the possibility of problems such as depression.

At least you have a therapist I've been begging my mom to take me to one and she still refuses even though I'm the most messed up person on earth

I'm so sorry that your parent isn't supporting you in finding a therapist. Mental health is just as important as physical health, so denying you that help is like refusing to take you to a regular doctor when you have a virus or something. If you're in school see if maybe you can talk to a counselor there?

That's just depressing to hear.

tell her, I'm sure she won't get depressed.
