Has anyone stopped to think that maybe the OP didn't have any reason to think their son was peeing on the carpet and just figured it had to be the cat? Sure, human pee and cat pee smell very different, but if you walk into the room and see a pee stain you don't automatically think, "Dammit, one of the teenagers pissed on the floor again!" If someone told me it was the cat I'd believe them - not stick my face in the piss carpet and try to determine whether or not it's actually cat pee.
