Today, I went to my girlfriend's house to break up with her. It was a hard decision and both of us became quite emotionally overwhelmed at the time. We began to hug as a final goodbye, then her mum burst in the room and yelled, "HE FINALLY PROPOSED!" FML

Hey, I know this seems like an obvious YDI, but breaking up with someone like that can actually be really hard if you happen to be emotionally connected to them. I feel for you, but seriously, break the engagement, and then cut ALL contact. It's the only way. Seek support from close friends and/or family for a while after, and it will get better. Good luck.

Trust me even though it is hard to breakup bc your scared its better to get it over with and let her get mad and crazy then to be stuck your whole life. Break up over the phone. I had to do this one time bc I was dating someone that sounds like you have. And we were engaged!

People generally feel more sympathy for a woman who is being abused by a man than a man being abused by a woman. People generally assume that men only get abused because they're weaklings, or that the abuse isn't really all that bad. I just think that if this post were written by a woman people mightn't put it down to her being spineless.
