Today, I found out my parents never naturalized me. I'm adopted from a country I've never been to, and now I could be deported there. FML

You deserved it 599

William Sever tells us more.

To clarify, I was born in a foreign country and adopted at less than a month old. My parents are both US citizens. I was never naturalized.

That is a horrible situation to be in op. Hope that everything works out!

This one is totally on your idiotic parents. I don't know what prevented or prevents them from seeking citizenship. There is nothing that serious unless you were kidnapped. Other than that, they have potentially ruined everything that you have built in your country. I really want to know how old you are; this is like a damn Lifetime movie.

Go see an immigration lawyer with your parents.

..And this is what's wrong with immigration policy in the US :/ I sincerely hope you get it resolved after dealing with REASONABLE authorities, OP

how do you get adopted from a country you've never been to? wouldn't that mean, if you've never been there, you'd be from a different country you have been to...?

Geesh you people like to nit-pick...I am pretty sure when he meant he never been to-he meant has no memory of being there (being less then 1 month old, who would remember!),

This is FML nitpicking is kind of what we do...

My exes mom did the same thing. his birthday year was off by five years 12 year's later he is still trying to sort it out. but post 911 he can't stop getting DUIS. On the other hand his sisters, all had the same issue took them a year. basically go to the embesy of your home country take adoption records, school records depending on age work records get a temp passport take,a picture at like walgreens with you. I would also get a lawyer and sue the agency your parents got you from

How is this even possible? Shouldn't adoption make you the same as a natural child of your parents?

You have to go back. Other side of the wall for you!

I have a family friend who had the same experience. She was forty when she learned that her parents had (accidently) failed to naturalize her, due to her adoption lawyer's negligence. She worked with an immigration lawyer and an adoption lawyer, and it was resolved very quickly. The judge even formerly castigated the now-elderly lawyer who oversaw her adoption, when she was a baby.
