Today, I found out that I owed my school $0.20. They decided to charge me a late fee of $20 for deferring the intial payment. FML

Schools right now are horrendous with late fees and fines. See: the FML about putting a parking sticker on the wrong side.

22: It's obvious you never went to college. If you're paying off tuition in loans, you better hope you wrote down the same amount you saw in the bill at the time. If the school decides to charge you on anything else for whatever reason, like a late library book, you don't know about it until you either get another bill a couple months later or you get a late reminder. It's not like you're getting a bill every week.

Sounds similar to what my school does. There's a $40 "administration fee" if you don't pay both the Fall and Winter semester's tuition by the end of September. It's worth it for some people to take the $40 hit when it's over thousands of dollars though. I have a couple friends that didn't pay their entire tuition bill at the end of September, and instead paid everything minus what the University itself is paying them as a scholarship, which the University pays directly to their account at the University. Essentially the University is charging them $40 because the University can't transfer money from one of it's own accounts to another account in time.

To all those who posted above, its not about the amount of money he has to pay. Its the principal that $0.20 would cause a $20 fee, cause its a 20,000% increase to what was originally owed in the first place.

hey man cut the OP some slack and stop being a dick. if u want to insult someone who actually did something wrong, go do it. but this guy DIDNT KNOW about the fine...so when he found out...his principal charged him extra.
