Depending on how the wind carries,OP the wind could be blowing the smell/smoke onto the balcony/in the building. Also may try taking a few more steps away from the building, you may be desensitized to the smell.

They might have synesthesia.

They probably don't mind the vision of you smoking as much as the constant smell of cigarettes which lingers on you. I'm not a smoker nor do I support it, but they should really mind their own business.

It's unsightly. Several people go stand next to my car to smoke at my apartment because my assigned stall happens to be the legal distance away from my building to smoke in public places. Half the time it seems they can't be bothered to throw their used cigarettes into the designated disposal can and instead just throw them on the ground. So my car is surrounded by used cigarettes.

Why even go through this much trouble? You pay your dues just like them. I say F them ?

I'm stuck between "**** your life" and "you deserve it." I'm glad your nice enough to go away from the apartment building, but for your health, you should quit smoking.

Sounds like they're ex-smokers and the sight makes them crave to smoke. That, or someone has been leaving cigarette butts around, and since they only see OP smoking, they blame them. Cigarette smoke does cling to clothes, but unless they're sticking their entire face against OP when they go to get inside heir apartment, it really shouldn't be too much of a problem, unless one of them has a very sensitive anaphylactic allergy to cigarette smoke.

Smoke inside from now on. When you talk to them light up & blow the smoke in their faces! You can't please everyone
