Could have gently refused?
The problem was not that OP got a bad job (or they would've "quit") but that they subsequently got laid off, so refusing wouldn't have made any more sense at the time. Unless you mean "refuse to get laid off", which sounds rather insane.
I believe 14 meant op could have refused to take the job in the first place. The way the FML is worded makes it sound like op "abandoned" their friends in a negative way and moved to this job even though op didn't want to, although I'm pretty sure that isn't the case. Op it sucks that this has happened and that your Uncle did that. Hopefully, as someone else has mentioned, you still have a great relationship with your friends back home and that they'll welcome you back with open arms!
Always sucks when you have family screw you over like that. Hopefully the rest of your friends and family will not be so cold as your uncle when you return. Hope things look up for you soon.
There is a lot that is left out. Family isn't guaranteed employment and can be a bad idea. Also nothing regarding the circumstances of that firing. Other than, that you moved for it, but that leaves a lot open.
you make a fair point. I was not trying to imply family equals guaranteed employment. I guess I was relating to it from the standpoint of having an uncle of the deadbeat, get-rich-quick-scheming variety.
OP was laid off, not fired. There's a difference.
Stuff like this is why you never do business with family. It's a pretty good general rule.
That just blows...sorry to hear that :c
If he convinced to do all that, I hope you didn't just kick you to the kerb and helped you after being laid off, or that would be messed up
Cry Uncle!
You must take your place in the circle of life. Your evil uncle has led you far from the Pridelands, and denied you your destiny. Find a couple of goofy sidekicks to take you in for a little while so that you can plot your return. Eating bugs isn't compulsory.
I am sorry but you shouldn't go in to business with family

That is so unbelievably messed up. So sorry to hear that, OP!!
Damn. I hope even though you abandoned your friends and boyfriend, that you ended things on really good terms and you can go back home to them :c I'm sorry your uncle did that to you.
