for everyone who can't see what's wrong with this: to op's girlfriend it may feel innocent, but in the view of her male friends, there's a very good chance that's not the case

Why is it inappropriate? Unless you are afraid that they are terrible people and will take advantage and harm her, why shouldn't she? If my husband starts telling me I shouldn't go skinny dipping, (or anything else that I have always done in the presence of other guys), we are going to have huge problems.
