Eh, schools have awards ceremonies for nothing all the time, now. Everyone gets a gold star for effort. If it was one of those, it shouldn't even matter. If he was actually getting an award for an accomplishment he was proud of, though, then you should've gone. I'm a WoW addict as well, but whenever things come up, my guildies are very understanding if I have to miss a raid.
