Wow, didn't realise this would get so much attention so quickly. Thanks guys! Not suprised that this has stirred a debate on breast feeding as a whole though... To clarify, my boss has recently had a child (duh!) and has therefore been on maternity leave. This is the first time she's come back to work. I actually work in a research lab, and so my boss gathered myself and a few of my coworkers (a doctor and a PhD student) together in an office to discuss the progress of our research since she's been absent. I didn't mind having the meeting, I didn't mind that the kid was there too, and I definitley didn't mind her having to feed the child (nor do I ever mind when any woman has to do this, but especially in this case because she asked us all if it was OK to feed her before doing anything). But I have never had to work so hard on maintaining eye contact in my life! Awkward!

While I am pro breast feeding this is absurd. These women out there who feel they can walk around with their tit hanging out and a kid hanging off of the nipple is why the rest of us breast feeding moms get screwed over. She's an embarrassment to breast feeding moms.
You ppl clearly know nothing about breastfeeding. She shouldn't be pumping, it causes nipple confusion in young babies and makes her more likely to get a breast infection from clogged ducts. And maybe she can't afford to be on maternity leave for so long. She's getting work done and feeding her child. Get over it.
there's no ******* reason women shouldn't be able to breast feed their children in public or in an office
That sucks for you lol
Breasts are natures baby bottles. Get over it!
I am all for Breast feeding anywhere it needs to be done and would recommend it, but not with a breast hanging out for the world to see. If anyone plans to breast feed in public when they have an infant child, i would recommend having a large scarf to cover up with so that people who aren't use to watching an infant get breast fed don't feel uncomfortable during that time. I know i myself get a little uncomfortable when watching mothers breast feed and i am a woman. The only people who i haven't been uncomfortable around while they were breast feeding are my aunts. I don't know about anyone else, but Men with breast who walk around shirtless make me seriously uncomfortable. I could watch breast feeding all day, but not shirtless men with breast. Worse when they are hairy.
I will take this to my grave: all women need to find a bathroom to feed their children in or pump their milk into a bottle before they leave the house. It is very tacky and disgusting to be doing this in a public area, especially at work. Your boss should be ashamed of herself.
So women who can't afford breast pump shouldn't breast feed their children or be stuck at home at all time. You should be ashamed of yourself. Western culture has sexualized and degraded women's body so much that it has forgotten its intended use. There is nothing shameful or tacky about feeding your child.
I will take this to my grave. every person should eat their meals in the bathroom. it's very tacky and disgusting to eat in public. anyone who doesn't follow my absurd rules should just be ashamed of themselves. shame on you.
True, your boss should have covered up, but come on. It's just a tit. After the first 2 or 3 minutes, there shouldn't have been any awkwardness unless the baby has enough hand-eye coordination to be slapping it.
I laughed at that probably more than i should have
bet youve been to a titty bar asshole
