Today, I knocked a girl lightly in the head with a prop at a costume party. I apologized profusely to the drama queen as she walked away blinking and holding her head. My boyfriend then told me that she had recently had brain surgery and it was hard for her to even leave the house. FML

Hi everyone! OP here. We were out at a nightclub for a Halloween event. I was standing at the edge of the dance floor talking to my boyfriend and the girl was behind me where I couldn't see her. I was carrying a cardboard hammer and I moved it and felt it touch something, then turned around and saw this girl cringing. I apologized two or three times and gave her a hug. As some people guessed, I referred to her as a "drama queen" only here, and it was to show what I thought before I knew that she had had surgery; a person who was in good physical health wouldn't have reacted so strongly to such a light tap. I did not hit her on purpose, and I certainly didn't think she was a drama queen after hearing what happened to her. Thanks for the comments!

Why was she at a party right after brain surgery?!

You couldn't have known OP, accidents happen. Plus, why was she there if she just had brain surgery?

Why did her head get in the way of your prop? I hope the prop didn't get damaged.?

I think over apologising is better than getting an earful after saying suck it up not knowing what happened

It's not your fault! Also, if this is the case she should probably have stayed in... whoops.

I hope your boyfriend told you the truth and wasn't trying to mess with you as a joke.

Ooh, that sucks. That must've be really hard for her and I'm sure she won't be mad at you or anything. The fact that you apologized shows you feel bad and didn't do it on purpose. She probably won't go to a party again - if ever - but I think, after a few days and she's not worried about any issues this might cause her brain/her, she'll appreciate that you apologized and feel bad and didn't mean to do it.

Hello op ! I see your issue with the "drama queen" thing. Yes if she was really that way (not saying she was) then I would sincerely rip her a new buttocks because that would be very annoying and childish and I've known people who do it. . .

#64 did you read the actual fml? she assumed the girl was being a drama queen but then later discovered that she was sensitive since she had recently had brain surgery.

So the question remains... Why the hell was she at a nightclub after brain surgery? jeeze...

She probably ignored everything her doctor said and went out because " Oh, I'll be fine. What's the worst that could happen?"

to be fair, she could've been cleared for it. I had laser eye surgery in January of this year and I was at my first day of class two days later, albeit with instructions from my doctor to take it easy and what to do throughout to day to maintain the health of my eyes. Granted, brain surgery is infinitely more complex and invasive than laser eye surgery, but we can guess that her doctor probably cleared her for it with specific instructions on how to take care of herself. Plus, we don't know how recently the surgery was. Could've been weeks or even a couple of months before the incident happened

Why the hell would you go to a party or anything unnecessary after having brain surgery?!

I was thinking the exact same thing !!!

I highly doubt the girl left the hospital after having her surgery and went straight to a party. The surgery probably happened a few months ago meaning enough time to begin feeling normal but long enough to be 100%

You didn't know, & it was an accidental bump. Don't feel too bad. Everyone on here would have thought the same thing at first, if it had happened to them. Ignore the haters. It's great that she felt up to going out in public, but things can & do happen. especially at a party.

Omg this happened to me once. In school I tapped a girl on the head joking and she burst into tears.. I was so confused until her friends yelled at me because she had brain surgery the year before and hadn't told anyone about it...

She cried a year after the surgery?

She could be referring to a school year which could be as short as three or four months. Certain medications can slow healing easily a year. Having a surgery in the past can often leave a patient with painful complications that last a lifetime.
