Today, I learned the hard way that if you tell your child that they're old enough to cook their own food in the microwave, you have to make sure they're smart enough not to put the metal spoon in with the food as well. FML

It's not about how smart the kid is, it's about how dumb you are for not telling him what he should not put in the microwave. YDI.

Expecting a kid to know to not put metal in a microwave without being told is like expecting anti-obesity groups to blame parents rather than McDonalds for child obesity.

i lit two things on fire in the microwave! i lit a dry towel on fire, and i tried to re-heat a hand warmer, which then exploded. my house smelled like chemicals for 3 days.

I don't get what's wrong with a metal spoon...

I sometimes out my fork or spoon in with the bowl still. when you get it out you just wait for it to cool

OMG one time when i was 7 (mastered the microwave) i accidently lef a spoon in a bowl. When I took it out of the microwave next thing i knew I had 7 blisters on my left hand. And that's my writing hand.

lol my brother has done that before.... he's 12. It was one of those baby spoons with plastic on the handle wrapped around the metal part. apparently this made him think it wouldn't burn.

Wow.. Harsh.. I suppose that if you don't have faith in the intelligence of your child maybe it's your own fault you have to buy a new micro.. Just saying..

when I was little I put easy mac in without water... fun times ^_^

Kids don't have microwave instincts. OP should've explained to the kid that metal doesn't belong in them.

I hate when parents expect their kid to magically gain knowledge with age instead of realizing they have to ******* teach them that kind of thing. "Common knowledge" is only common because generally everyone is taught, not because the information or experience lies dormant in your mind until you're old enough for it.
