One, I do take an enzyme to help me break down food. It's called Similase. Both acidophilus (sp?) and lactaid don't work for me at all. I've tried. Two, even if yogurt doesn't have lactose in it, it doesn't change the fact that it gives me very painful gas. Three, my mother won't take me to get soy yogurt. Four, I would have asked the pharmacist for a substitute, had I been the one picking up my medication. Unfortunately, my mother didn't realize the problem when the pharmacist was explaining the "eat some yogurt to help with diarrhea side effects" part. Five, whoever said to get a different pill is obviously not good in this area. Most antibiotics can cause diarrhea and the only way to get rid of the strep bacteria is to take antibiotics. So really, I don't have much choice about the pill. Just some clarifications. Thanks. :)

Acidophilus, idk if i spelled it right, it is basically the same thing as yogurt in pill form without dairy :)
if I were you, choose gas! so much better cause when I got food poisoning and had diharea i was in school. not so good..i prefer gas:)
Why didn't you get yourself some soy yoghurt?
Lactaid. Or probiotic pills. Or coconut milk kefir. Seriously, it's not that difficult.

OK everyone,I understand what the problem is: THE OP IS NOT LACTOSE INTOLERANT. He is casein intolerant. What's the difference? Lactose = milk sugar casein = milk protein Lactase enzymes (brand name Lactaid) break down milk sugar. Similase (which the OP says is the only product which brings him relief) breaks down gluten and casein. All the Lactaid in the world will not help this person. OP, the pharmacist was over-simplifying it when he said to take yoghurt. What you need are probiotics to rebuild the "good bacteria" that the antibiotic wiped out. Your best bet is to walk to a drug store and get yourself some dairy-free probiotic pills. Soy yogurt is also good, but you may need to hoof it to a health food store to find that.
when i had strep, i never took a pill. I was given liquid medicine. Also, there was no possible side affect of diarrhea. I wonder why they didn't put you on what I had.
Antibios cause constipation (most of them)
eat soy yogurt then. or lactose free yogurt. or some sort of acidophilus supplement cus that's why you need to eat yogurt
ahh the story of my life :) let's get married
I vote gas. so you don't ruin your bed and your underwear,
If he doesn't get rid of strep then other bad stuff can happen look it up so I'd rather have diarrhea and never have strep again

I vote gas, at least u can do something rather then sitting on the toilet
Gas is by far the lesser of the two evils. Would you rather go through a roll of toilet paper in 2 hours, leaving you with a sore ass and a raw rectum from all the wiping, or amaze your family and friends by playing some of their favorite jazz tunes with your flatulence?
