Today, I mentioned to my parents that Sunday is going to be awesome because it's Christmas. They responded with "Wait, this Sunday? In 3 days?!" Apparently they forgot. FML

Today, my parents forgot it was my birthday. They ordered me to scrub the common bathroom, and when I asked if they remembered, my dad's reaction was "Oh! Really?" My mom's was "I thought that it was next week." What lovely parents I have. FML

Today, I went to my dad's house for Christmas. Soon enough, my grandma had commented on how much weight I've gained, my aunt asked me why I'm still single, and my dad joined in by reminding me that I still haven't been accepted into college. Only three more days to go. FML

Today, my mother came over to visit, and my kids started excitedly telling her Christmas is coming soon. She freaked out, saying Christmas is a "Satanic holiday" and telling them that Santa is going to hell along with everyone who celebrates it. My children are now traumatized. FML

Today, I told my parents I really missed them and wanted to come home for the weekend, as I haven't seen them in months. They told me that was a bad idea and they couldn't fit me into their schedule. I asked what their plans were. They said they didn't have any yet. FML

Today, my extended family came over for Christmas. I forgot to get a present for my extremely sensitive aunt. I took a gift from my re-gift pile and wrapped it quickly. Little did I remember that it was the same gift she gave me last year. She noticed. FML

It seems unlikely they'd miss all the music, decorative displays, greeting cards...Isn't it possible they're just messing with you? In any case, even if celebrating Christmas isn't an obligation, you were probably really looking forwards to it. Since there's still 3 days, hopefully you'll all have the time to prepare a nice meal and have some fun together as a family, even if there aren't any gifts prepared. Disappointed hopes suck, but give it a bit of time and it'll become one of those funny memories.

I'm guessing they do have a tree and stuff set up, unless they usually decorate a couple days before christmas. the parents probably thought christmas was next week or something and lost track of the days.

I understand them fully. I've been working a lot lately and even tho I knew the exact date, it just seemed like it's a distant date, sometime in the future, like in 2 weeks or so. they are playing christmas music in every store since late november and decorations are on since at least the beginning of December. i already ordered every gift, but if someone didn't remind me what date is today, i couldn't just remember Christmas is in 2 days with everything going on at work and at home. I bet your parents have a lot on their minds, but I don't think they forgot to buy you a gift, I think they just got suddenly overwhelmed by the realization that it's sooner than expected.
