Today, I noticed our weekly biohazardous waste pickup didn't occur as usual at the surgery center where I work. After calling, the company informed me they were short staffed and couldn't make it out 'til next week. Guess that amputated finger is just going to marinate another week. FML

Actually... It was! I'm thinking about breaking the contract with this company (after they pick up the finger- and the rest of the waste, of course). They've been nothing but unreliable and difficult to work with.

I used to love the word "marinate" but this has forever ruined it for me.

I used to deal with biohazard and sanitary bins, etc. The first time, I retched but you get used to the smell. Even in summer.

Maybe Yall should have a backup company just in case

I was under the impression that body parts were incinerated.

They are... typically by biohazardous waste management teams or companies. :) Hospitals get super frequent pickups because they have the volume for it. As a small-town surgery center, we usually get weekly pickups (or, occasionally, semi-weekly for cases such as this). This particular company has proven to be unfortunate and unreliable, though.

In biohazardous waste a finger may be the least worrying item..,

Can people on here take a joke? 90 percent of joke comments are thumbed down...

Just throw it in a pot in the hospital café. problem solved!

Pretty sure I've smelled worse. Don't yall have an incinerator onsite?

probably like a amputated finger marinating in biohazardous waste.
