Today, I ran into a friend I hadn't seen in a while, but I had heard she was pregnant. I rubbed her belly and asked when she was due. She slowly backed away, giving me a weird look and said, "Two months ago." FML

Why does everyone just assume we're not close friends? She's actually one of my best friends. I hadn't seen her in a while because I was out of the country and I knew she would be ok with me rubbing her belly because with her first pregnancy she always wanted me to touch her belly. It would've been awkward if she hadn't burst out laughing. We ended laughing so hard at my stupidity that we cried.

You havent seen them in a while but felt the urge to rub their stomach?

I find it a little weird how people assume it's alright to touch a pregnant woman's stomach, especially without asking. You wouldn't just touch someone's stomach randomly, why do it when they're pregnant?!

Sadly op, I did the same thing to my ex-friend. No amount of apologies worked :(

if a friend is willing to get that upset and not take it as a joke. they have no sense of humour and aren't really that close of a friend after all, if they couldn't brush it off or be the better person and accept an apology.

I guess that's why in my state it's now illegal to touch a pregnant woman's baby bump without her permission. Although, honestly, I don't understand why you would go around touching people baby or no baby.

Read the follow-up that has magically appeared after your comment JUST for you! Remember kids, don't be a dick on the internet.

Don't get offended by our comments. You were the one who shared your FML story to us.

I'm not offended. I think it's funny how offended other people are though

She's one of your best friends, yet she didn't notify you she had had a child? Right.

@112 Sometimes when you're out of the country you don't have any way to contact home either because 1) you don't have wifi or 2) you don't have a phone/can't afford the ridiculously high international rates. I've stopped bringing my phone at all when I leave the country.

Your tone and wording in your post is completely different than your comment here. The people commenting went off that because that's all the information they had. Had you said in your post that you were out of the country, the comments would probably be different.

If you were out of the country for at least 2 months, surely you'd get hold of WiFi? when I moved abroad I sorted internet within a week.

Could have been out of the country on a mission trip or something similar. Not everyone's first priority is getting interwebz when they travel.

@116 Like 117 said, it's about priorities. When I'm out of the country (mission trips) I'm not particularly focused on finding the nearest wifi hotspot. That's the least of their worries, and mine

Yes, because the entire world has access to internet, right? I can barely get ADSL at home and I live in the one of the most developed countries in Africa (if not the most)

Why was this an FML if you laughed and joked about it after? I wouldn't consider this an FML. Just my opinion.

Maybe you should have made it clear that she was your best friend? YDI, OP.

When it comes to someone who is pregnant...NEVER ASSUME.

People are assuming you aren't close, because you didn't know she'd had her baby. People usually share that news with everyone, including strangers.

Exactly! In the FML, it also said that "I heard she was pregnant" making it sound like she didn't hear it from her friend.

It's rude unless she is about to pop. Otherwise she may have had the baby recently and be struggling to lose the 'baby fat' but look about 4-5 months pregnant.

I was asked all throughout my life when I was due. I struggled a great deal with weight and nothing worked for me. I was really offended when people would ask me if I was pregnant simply because I wasn't. Not everyone that looks pregnant is. That's why you should never assume. Now you should take your own advice and "STFU".

YDI. It's never okay to rub another person's belly without asking, even if she was still pregnant.

YDI for touching her belly. Pregnant or no, keep your hands to yourself
