Today, I saw a missed call on my phone. Thinking it was one of the multiple jobs I applied for, I called back. Turns out it was just a debt collector. FML

Tell them they called the wrong number.

Classic Catch 22. Can't get the job without picking up the phone; can't pick up the phone without taking a chance it might be a creditor.

Tip: enter the number in google and you can find out who the number belongs to

I do this all the time! The amount of numbers I have blocked because of it though.

Meanwhile kids in Syria are losing parents and you're bitching about who answers the phone. Ydi

because a problem like that, (that OP can't do anything about), totally makes their own problems invalid. Nice try, Schleprock.

I fee your pain, I've been there! Block them to avoid it happening again.

Just those bad days OP ! Good ones are just around the corner !

Wouldn't a place that wants to schedule an interview with you leave a message?

if it was a potential employer, they would have left a message. debt collectors usually don't to try and trick you into thinking exactly what you did if they don't leave a message, it's not worth calling back.

Google those numbers you don't know before calling back. It's what I do

if its a collection agency then you can send them a letter telling them not to call you on the phone it's a cease and desist letter you find them everywhere on the internet I would really take the time to do this with any debt collector you need to be able answer the phone

Collector: I'm calling about the money you owe. OP: Yeah I don't have that but on another note, are you guys hiring?

Usually they will leave a message...at least they did with me...
