Today, I uttered the phrase "the pot calling the kettle black" in class. Moments later, I'd been called a "racist twerp" and kicked out of class by the same English teacher who once tried to have another kid suspended for using the word "titillate", because apparently it's "pornographic". FML

I thought teachers were supposed to have some level of intelligence...

Then there's that awkward moment when 31 realizes this is in the UK.

Someone needs to get her a map of Peru and point out Lake Titicaca....

There really are a lot of irrational and just plain stupid teachers out there sometimes.

It's ironic that a supposed English teacher doesn't know the meaning of a common idiom.

Well, I'm not too surprised. Back in high school, we got an (American) university prof for our advanced English lessons for a year (I'm Hungarian); he supposedly taught literature back home, specialised in ancient literature. He didn't know who Enhaton was, I had to explain him (we were in 9th grade)... that pharaoh wrote a beautiful hymn to the Sun, so even if he didn't like history, this was still shocking for the class. And we had problems with using some old English (specifically Victorian ones, learnt from reading Oscar Wilde) idioms in our assignments, because he didn't know them.

We don't learn about Enhaton in the US. Or at least I never did.

I didn't know Team Rocket was teaching English now.

Just be glad you didn't use 'niggardly' in a sentence. And to cut off the ignorant from bitching: nig·gard·ly [nig-erd-lee] adjective 1. reluctant to give or spend; stingy; miserly. 2. meanly or ungenerously small or scanty: a niggardly tip to a waiter. adverb 3. in the manner of a niggard. Origin: 1520–30; niggard + -ly Related forms nig·gard·li·ness, noun Synonyms 1. penurious, miserly, mean, tight, avaricious, mercenary, illiberal, close. 2. poor. Antonyms 1. generous.
