Today, I was detained for trying to "illegally enter" my house, all because my parents forgot to tell me they were being evicted. FML

College_Grad tells us more.

OP here. I just graduated in May and have been working 2 jobs (one full time in my field and one part time for extra cash) since a week after I graduated. I am almost never home. I am moving to my own apartment at the end of August. I paid rent, car payments, and utilities to my parents every week because I'm a big girl, planning my own family. I have no idea what happened exactly, but someone called the police because I tried to unlock the front door after I came home from work. Everything is ok. We're ok.

That sucks OP. Talk to your parents about it. How did you not know about this?

I was once detained by a foreign government. Things could be worse.

Not your fault. Totally the parents fault

this made me think of when I was looking for a house to rent. Saw an ad in the newspaper, made an appointment to go look at it. When upon arriving to take a tour of the house... the people there were in the process of getting evicted. Their belongings were getting thrown out while the family sat on the curb.

Sorry to hear that, OP. I hope things get better for you and your family soon!

I know it seems incredibly unfair right now, but perhaps your parents didn't tell you because they didn't want to worry you/ were ashamed? In any case, hopefully the Police will see sense and let you go without warning, but I'm pretty sure a lawyer of any grade should be able to argue your case successfully. I hope it works out for you and your family, it's horrible to hear of people losing their home, no matter the circumstance.

Was there not a eviction notice on the door?

I'm really curious have you asked your parents yet what happened?

^^^ "My parents forgot to tell me they were being evicted." What do YOU think?

I'm assuming #63 means have they said anything since the FML was posted. That would be one of MY first questions for my family.
