Today, I was detained for trying to "illegally enter" my house, all because my parents forgot to tell me they were being evicted. FML

College_Grad tells us more.

OP here. I just graduated in May and have been working 2 jobs (one full time in my field and one part time for extra cash) since a week after I graduated. I am almost never home. I am moving to my own apartment at the end of August. I paid rent, car payments, and utilities to my parents every week because I'm a big girl, planning my own family. I have no idea what happened exactly, but someone called the police because I tried to unlock the front door after I came home from work. Everything is ok. We're ok.

That sucks OP. Talk to your parents about it. How did you not know about this?

Return to your new home and stay confined in your den/lair/cave until your parents convefe and apologize for your near arrest then return to your former address during night and smash some windows or spray graffiti on the door

Yes, new home owners should be punished for banks having high interest rates and the parents being unable to pay their debt. Makes perfect sense.

#24 yes a new home owner should be blamed for taking out a loan with a payment they can't afford

So people should live with their parents until they're 40?

#13 vandalism doesn't fix anything just makes more issues...

And then she should go back to her new home and stay confined until her parents apologize for her actual arrest for vandalism.... right?

Yeah please don't listen to that ******* and get arrested for an actual crime. That would make a bad situation even worse.

That really sucks OP, they were probably just ashamed of not being able to give you the life they wanted for you and were to scared to know how to tell you. Don't worry OP it'll get better from here

Dude, OP's name is "College grad". Pretty sure at this point they have their own life.

The way OP said "my house" seems to me like she still lives at home but I could be wrong

Not necessarily; some people still live with there parents so they can play off college loans. So they don't have to deal with paying that on top of rent and utilities.

Well looks like your parents go to find a house and move out

Honestly and quite frankly i find you super extra selfish!!! You being shocked over this little miss hapening instead of ur parents losing their home ... Not to mention how in hell u didn't notice their financial troubles. But you got one thing right: FYL!!!!!

Does OP's username explain how they didn't notice, you can't notice something if you're not around to notice.

Honestly and quite frankly I find you judgmental and stupid. Since the name is college grad that is an answer to why they may have not been aware of the finances. Also how many parents are willing to tell their kid "hey, we messed up and now we are getting evicted"? I also don't see how it is selfish to freak out over being legally detained. That's a big deal and can be scary as hell (I imagine seeing as I have never had that happen myself).

that was the first thing i thought too. o your upset? your poor parents have bigger issues!

Since when being a grad student was reason enough not to be involved when it comes to the parents finances? Honestly, it is pretty easy spotting changes when we Wanna know!

Quite franckly and honestly i respect your point of view but i maintain my opinion. Maaany chose not to see what their parents are going though as it would be just extra hustle and it is utterly wrong, did u think that OP's status as Grad would be thanks to his parents??? Being away has never been a reason, parents can hide financial issues but not evictions unless the offspring is too selfcentered to visit. Second, should u have understood my point, u'd see that i didn't minimize the fact that he was detained ( and not arrested) as much as i emphasized on his parents being evicted At the very least, he still got his dorm to go back to, what about his parents?

I'm a college grad living away from home. Even when I lived at home my parents did everything they could to hide any financial problems as not to worry their children. It's an act of parental love. also, it's human nature to want to believe everything is alright. Jumping to the conclusion that OP's selfish is narrow-minded. With this economy, it is common for a college student to be working to jobs and be taking classes, as Op's reply below states. Walk a mile in another's shoes before you start to ridicule them

You're just a twat. Most parents try to hit that from their children, especially those in college so as not to stress them out even more. Vollege studenta have quite a bit on their plates you know.

I am sorry OP that your parents leading a tough time now. Hopefully you can understand and support them

I am assuming your parents didn't want to add more stress to your plate by mentioning it but still it's pretty important

I'm gonna guess they were too ashamed to come out and tell you they were being evicted. Still sucks, but I'd have some pity on your parents too.
