There's a lot of talk on here about whether the OP deserved it, but we can't know for sure without the rest of the details. One thing I do know is that if these were my friends, they'd need a new DD.

I think he might have gotten arrested for having open beer cans. I know that's against the law. So even if the cans were closed and only opened to pour it on OP; he would still be arrested.
open containers are illegal too and that would be your fault for letting them in the car.

I would think the real problem wasn't the swerving or beer smell but rather the open container. I don't know about Florida but the states I've been don't allow alcohol to be open in the car.
