AnimalWorld tells us more.
Hey everybody, OP here. I just want to clarify a few things. First of all I was able to walk. I went up to the woman who told me I couldn't, handed her a quarter, and told her to keep the change. And for those of you who think I'm just an idiot for not paying, they only made you aware you owe money if you buy a lunch from the school in the last 2 weeks of classes, which I haven't done in 3 years. So no I wasn't aware. AND to make matters worse, if you still have money in your account at the end of the year, you aren't issued a refund. But these 14 cents were somehow a deal breaker. That seems a bit twisted to me. Thanks to everyone who was concerned! I'm an official graduate now!

A ton of people at my school were having the same problem. We would get called up to the principal's office and be yelled at for owing money. I owed a grand total of 82 cents and there were tons of people who owed similar amounts. What was even worse was that they wouldn't tell you what you owed the money for. It quickly became a joke among the senior class that they were just assigning random amounts to people and making them pay because they were low on funds.
Happened to me too! Except it was from 7th grade. Just a lovely time to bring it up huh?
Yeah because you're leaving. Pay what you owe. Schools are strapped to the limits as it is. The fine has always been there.
I sincerely doubt this. Schools allow you to walk just don't release your diploma. If they hold walking you simply pay your fine. But what would I know. I've only worked in education longer than OP has been alive. I could be wrong. Pay your fine and walk.
You haven't worked in every school system ever. My school is similar to OP's and won't let people walk if they owe a certain amount of money.
it seems to me they would have told you you couldn't walk until you paid. not that you couldn't walk at all.
so pay it. I dont get this.
So pay the 14 cents?? I'm sorry I'm not getting this one at all.

You absolutely need to dispute this. Bring the fourteen cents in all pennies, slap that shit on the counter, and let whoever you need to know that yes, you will be walking across the stage at your graduation, because fourteen ******* cents is not going to get in the way of one of the most priceless moments of your life.
At my school it was book fees from the library. I didn't know a single person who didn't get charged, regardless if you had ever stepped into the library or not.
