Today, I went to ask my boss for a raise. He laughed at me and said, "That's hilarious because I was going to ask you if you could take a pay cut!" FML

Meet in the middle and stay at the same pay rate while you start looking for another job. Also harsh.

The economy is still nowhere near where it needs to be to just ask for a raise without some serious thought put into it. You have to be able to show why you deserve it. My job actually shows us weekly the percent of payroll we took up and the percent of sales we generated.

Because, in the US, it is illegal to lower an employees pay without the employees permission. Once an employee is making so much, with pay raises and minimum wage going up, it is very illegal to give a pay cut.

When asking for a raise, you should also be prepared to give a list of reasons you deserve it. Hopefully, you didn't get that pay cut because you were able to show your value as an employee. (:

One of you has a warped view of your value to the company. The shitty thing is that even if your boss is wrong, he'll win cause he's thinking LIKE A BAWS!

Or the company could be making less money and need to cover the losses while the employee is oblivious to that and just wants more money because he needs it and thinks he's doing a good enough job to deserve it. But then again solving things without people having warped minds is so boring
