Some stores require their cashiers to ID every single time they need a birth date for something like alcohol, cigarettes, meds, even chemical products like spray paint. Don't blame the cashier for company policy.

At the store I work at, the cashiers have to ID everybody for an age-restricted product because the computer won't put the purchase through until the ID is either scanned or a birth date is entered. It could be just the company policy, and isn't the cashier's fault.
