If she's a helicopter mom watch out lol But seriously, I would have just asked who you were and why are you holding my baby? To leave with a baby you have to have a car seat at the hospital I was at, so not so scary. As to the germ thing, does anybody actually do that?
Saying it's not so bad because the person couldn't actually leave with the baby is like saying it's not so bad if your house is ransacked as long as they didn't take anything. The violation is still valid. It's not so much about thinking this stranger is trying to steal your baby as much as you feeling violated that someone would touch your baby without asking you first. As a new mother you're running on instinct and your number one priority is keeping your baby safe - seeing some random cuddling your baby will kick your defenses into high gear. And as for the germ thing - yes, there are people who do that. The hospital I had my one daughter at wouldn't even let the babies out of the nursery during visiting hours to minimize the exposure to germs. Family members and friends could see them through the glass, but that was it. Dads were allowed special visting time after everyone else had left to cuddle with baby.
maybe your aunt should give you the right info?
that sucks :( sorry that must have been REALLY awkward :P FYL
Kinda your fault... It's just your cousin. You should've waited for your aunt first. YDI OP.
Who knows, maybe OP and their aunt are really close? Just a theory, so I wouldn't get too upset over the whole holding the baby without its mother's permission thing. As for the situation at hand... FYL indeed.

thats no too bad, apologise and explain.
That is very true, regardless if the baby belonged to your aunt or not, you cannot just pick up and hold a newborn baby without even asking for permission. Also I can't remember another serious comment by perdix besides this one.
